Describe every letter of THINK. What is each letter trying to achieve?
T: Step back and examine the situation from the other person’s point of view.
H: Consider what the other person might be thinking or feeling in that moment.
I: Come up with at least two alternative, positive interpretations for the person's behavior, assuming good intentions.
N: Notice how the person may be trying to help or show they care, and recognize if they are dealing with their own stress.
K: Approach the conversation or situation with kindness and gentleness.
True or False: The first part of practicing effectively is figuring out what you want.
True. To act effectively, you must know what you want out of a situation. Once you know your goal, you can choose the most effective means to reach that goal.
Describe in-depth what each mind represents and provide an example.
Emotion Mind: feelings alone determine outcome with thinking/reflecting on potential consequences, facts go unnoticed. (In a disagreement with your partner, you lash out at them, shut down, or wallow in hopelessness.)
Reasonable Mind: Approach situation with logic, void of emotions. Disregards what your preferences are and will do things based on what you "should" do. (After you lose your job, you pretend you don’t feel upset and immediately dive into a new job search.)
Wise Mind: Combine both logic and emotion together. Acknowledging your feelings while also responding to them in a rational way. (In a disagreement with your partner, you recognize how you feel, ask how they feel, and try to problem-solve.)
