You are working on a puzzle with a partner. Right before it’s finished, the teacher announces it’s time to clean up. You feel annoyed because you were almost done.
Small problem. Clean up and move on even though it’s frustrating.

You don’t want to start your work, but you sit in your chair and play with things on your desk.
You will lose points, might get a yellow, and you will do your work during your break.
You want attention during a lesson, but you know interrupting will get you in trouble.
Raise your hand or wait for a break.
You are waiting for a turn on the SmartBoard. Someone else gets called before you, even though you think you were next.
Small problem. Let the adult handle it, and calm your body.
The directions changed during an activity. You feel confused and a little tense, but you still want to do the work correctly.
Ask for help from an adult.
During a board game, you lose a turn because of the card you picked. You feel upset, scream, and throw the game pieces.
UNEXPECTED: Losing a turn happens in a game sometimes, if you feel upset you need to take a break.
You don't feel ready to work right away so you take some deep breaths, and work when you're ready.
You'll get a green for choosing a calm-down tool.
At recess, four kids are playing kickball. The game already started, and they say, “We’re full.” You really want to play and feel disappointed.
Ask when the next game starts or choose a different activity.
You brought a special toy from home to show to your class but the teacher said toys from home are not allowed at school.
Medium problem. Talk to an adult later and manage your feelings now.
You answered a question incorrectly and a few kids laughed. Your face feels hot and your chest feels tight. You don’t want attention on you right now. You want to be left alone.
Ask to take a break.
During a group game, you get out early. You feel disappointed, but you sit and watch quietly until the next round.

You feel upset when it’s time to put the iPad away. You complain at first, but then put it away.
You'll get iPad on your next break!
You’re playing Uno. You’re about to win, but another player skips your turn by mistake. The group keeps playing.
Calmly point out the mistake or ask for adult help.
A peer makes a negative comment about your work. They stop when you look at them, but you keep thinking about it and can’t focus.
Medium problem. Decide whether to ignore or get adult help.
Earlier in the day, you had trouble with a peer. Now they are sitting near you. They haven't talk to you but you feel angry being near them.
Take deep breaths to stay calm. If you still feel upset ask an adult to switch seats.
At recess, someone chooses teams and you don’t get picked right away. You roll your eyes but still join when it’s your turn.
EXPECTED, rolling your eyes isn't a great choice but it's important to still play.
You feel like you need to kick and yell because you're frustrated about something. You ask an adult if you can go to 106 until you feel safer.
106 is the correct place to kick and yell. You will get greens on your chart and you won't lose points.
You get your tray at lunch and think the food looks weird. It isn't something you've seen before.
Remember that I don't have to eat it, I only have to look at it. If I'm hungry after recess I can have a snack from Carter's room.
You notice two students arguing and moving closer to each other. No one is hurt yet, but voices are loud and voices are rising.
Big problem. Get an adult because they are unsafe.
You just got back from a break. Now you feel restless and frustrated because the job your class is doing seems hard, but you know leaving again will make it harder to finish.
A classmate accidentally bumps into you in the hallway. You feel annoyed but keep walking and don’t react.

The timer goes off for your break to be over but you're still drawing. When an adult tells you that the timer is going off and they need to put your stuff away. You ask for one more minute.
You will lose points for ignoring the timer and might not get to draw on your next break.
You're in Carter's room, and other kids come in loudly. Their bodies are all over the plac,e and they're being very loud. You feel frustrated and like you want to scream at them.
You move to another room where it is quieter and get points for ignoring.
