Poseidon hears his son's prayer, and retaliates against Odysseus. Poseidon feels he is serving justice due to Odysseus' decision. Odysseus returns to Ithaca, disguised as an old beggar. He cunningly plans his revenge against the suitors for their hostile behavior. Odysseus kills the majority of the suitors as well as the ingenuine maids of the palace. Odysseus avenges the suitors for how they treated his wife, son, and palace. Some may think Odysseus went too far, yet others feel that justice was served appropriately.

Odysseus and Penelope's hearts are truly loyal to each other. Even after twenty years of being apart, they still felt the undying love for one another. Although Odysseus' heart was loyal, his body (at times) was not. He made love to Calypso as well as Circe, while Penelope remained loyal and devoted physically, emotionally, and mentally.
