Also, there are similar characters in both books. Near the end of the book when Ponyboy is reading Johnny's book and his letter, Ponyboy says the southern gentlemen were gallant. He realizes that is why Johnny looks up to Dally. Ponyboy realizes how gallant Johnny is too because he saved the kids from the fire, just because he knew they could have a chance at changing the world and ''staying gold,''unlike him.

Violence is in almost every chapter. The book wouldn't have the same effect without the violence in it. The fighting methods is also a way that sets the greasers and socs apart. In rumbles greasers fight fairly and socs don't. Throughout the book, greasers fight violence with violence, like when Johnny killed Bob.
