S– Specificity: This means the programme you are going to plan needs to be specific to the individual needs of that person. 

 • P – Progression: Starting at the correct level and build up slowly. 

s. • O – Overload: Once your body has adapted to your current level or load of training you will stay at the same level of fitness unless you do more.

 • R – Reversibility: Any adaptions that occur to your body as you train will be reversed if you stop. 

• T – variation: The same training leads to boredom and lack of full effort. Variation also helps prevent overtraining in one area. 

• R+R – Rest and Recovery. Overtraining can make you ill and even top athletes must have one rest day a week to give their bodies time to recover and rebuild micro tears in muscles.

Method:

 • Run 20-metre shuttles between the marked lines. Your foot should touch or cross the line each time the bleep sounds. 

• When the bleep speeds up you must speed up too.

 • Stop when you cannot keep up with the bleep. The level and the number of shuttles you did at that level are recorded.
