Anamnesis

A special kind of remembering when we recall a past event that reoccurs in the present.

Logos

Jesus's name and a Greek word that translates to  "word" and means "thought, logic, or meaning."

Epiclesis

The Greek word for "invocation" or "calling upon." It occurs during the liturgy when the priests call upon the Holy Spirit.

Litany

Form of prayer, spoken or sung, involving a dialogue between the leader and people assembled. The people respond to each phrase said or sung by the leader with constant refrain or acclamation.

Sponsor

A person who stands with the confirmation candidate as a sign of support and reminder of their baptism.

Perfumed oil, consecrated by the Bishop, which is used for a special anointing in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders that signifies the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Sorrow for one's sins.

Liturgy of the Word

Consists of readings from the Bible, a homily by a bishop, priest, or deacon, the Creed, and prayers for the Church, the world, and the people in need.

Eucharistic Prayer

The Church's great prayer of thanksgiving to the Father. It includes the consecration of bread and wine.

Part of Mass when people are invited to share a sign of Christ's peace with one another.

When a young person is old enough to understand the difference between right and wrong. This is generally regarded to age 7.

Absolution

Freeing from guilt. Takes place during the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, when the priest pardons sins in the name of God and the Church.
