What is the difference between impermeable and porous rocks?

Impermeable rocks do not allow water to pass through. Porous rocks have cracks and holes which allow them to absorb water.

300

How much of the surface of the Earth does water cover, and how much is land?

400

Give us a definition of a natural spring.

It is a natural flow of groundwater. Impermeable rock traps the water. The pressure forces the water upwards, until it reaches the surface.

What is the water cycle?

The water cycle shows the continuous movement of water within the Earth and atmosphere. It is a complex system that includes many different processes. Liquid water evaporates into water vapour, condenses to form clouds, and precipitates back to earth in the form of rain and snow. At the ends this precipitation collects in different bodies of water.

500

Explain how groundwater is formed.

Precipitation is absorbed into the ground. It sinks into the ground through the soil and then through the porous rocks. Then when it reaches impermeable rocks the water collects to form an aquifer.
